[edit] Synopsis

Agent Tom Baldwin manages to track down Jordan Collier, who has been living in a small town with his followers. Also, Maia has a disturbing glimpse of the future.

[edit] Plot

Tom rushes home and calls out to Kyle, though he is not there. Tom then calls Kyle on his cell phone, and Kyle answers from the cabin he is hiding Isabelle Tyler in. Tom begs Kyle to come home as he wants to meet with him, to which Kyle agrees and hangs up. Before Kyle leaves the cabin, Cassie appears and tells him Tom knows Kyle took promicin. Kyle is despondant, as he knows he can never return home, and angrily asks her what he should do now. Cassie calmly gives Kyle directions to a town named Evanston and urges him to go there, and when Kyle insists on knowing what is there, Cassie smirks and says "just enjoy the surprise" and vanishes. Isabelle enters at that moment, and Kyle tells her they have to leave.

Kyle and Isabelle follow Cassie's directions precisely, and are now following a country road path due west to find Cassie's surprise. Just as the two reach the outskirts of Evanston, they see Cassie's surprise...Jordan Collier, who is bathing in a lake. Both Jordan and Kyle and Isabelle are surprised, and Kyle and Isabelle proceed to attempt to run away, but are stopped by 4 other people and Jordan proceeds to take them prisoner. While being interrogated in an abandoned mine-shaft, Kyle reveals his ability and tells him about the White Light cult. Kyle gives the book for Jordan to examine, but Jordan is still skeptical. However, Jordan gradually comes to believe his actions are having higher consequences on the world than he planned, and releases Kyle, but Isabelle remains in custody.

Tom tracks Kyle's cell phone to Evanston and, after asking Diana to cover for him, drives to Evanston. It is a peaceful town full of friendly people, and Tom asks the local sherriff to look out for Kyle's car if he sees it. Look around for clues, Tom find Kyle's car in a gas station garage, and confronts the mechanic working on it for answers. The sheriff and a large crowd of people arrive, where the sheriff claims the car had been in the garage for two weeks, and hints that it is time to leave. Tom pretends he believes this, and is escorted out of town. When the coast is clear, Tom ditches his car in the bushes and returns to the town on foot, and discovers something horrifying...when Tom look into the mechanic's window, he sees him being assisted in his duties by a person with pyrokinesis, when he look across the street, he sees a woman with telekinesis using her ability to collect apples, and sees many other residents showing signs of other abilities, revealing the whole town has taken promicin. Tom stays hidden, but is discovered by a young boy named Billy, who promptly reveals his ability,Sonic Screaming, which alerts the town to Tom's intrusion. Tom narrowly escapes, and takes one of the residents, Shannon Reese, hostage and demands answers. Shannon reveals Evanston was an abandoned mining town that was populated by all the people on the run for taking promicin as an alternative to being arrested. Tom angrily demands to see Kyle, refusing Shannon's offer of him using her ability, to relieve anxiety and fear, but she tells him that talking to her is her only chance of seeing Kyle. After several hours of talking about his worries about Kyle and Alana, he finds himself happier than he has been in months, and Shannon then takes him to the mining shaft, where Tom findsa Isabelle prisoner. Jordan and his four bodyguards arrive, where Tom proceeds to demand Jordan surrender at gunpoint, but one of the men uses his power of thermokinesis to increase the temperature of his gun, burning his hand and forcing him to drop it.

Tom wakes up in a bed with his hand bandaged. He walks outside, and finds Collier and one of his bodyguards on the porch, where Collier welcomes Tom to "his" town. Tom charges towards Collier, but suddenly collapses to his knees, overwhelmed by a severe head pain. Collier calmly explains what Evanston is...he calls it "Utopia", where promicin-positive people can live in peace and use their abilities to better their world. Collier says Tom is officially a guest and the town's residents are accepting it, but warns him that, if he attempts to leave or remove the tracking device around his arm, then his bodyguard will use his ability to "do more" than cause head pains. While Tom is exploring, he soon adjusts to the friendly environment, and even tries their famous pie, where he experiences a collective memory link the town's residents all share. Tom is soon reunited with Kyle, where they discuss why he took promicin. Kyle is content with living in Evanston, and asks if Tom will stay and live with him. Tom admits he wants to, but has second thoughts when Kyle reveals the only way he is allowed to stay is if he takes promicin, hinting he "knows" he will survive it. Tom considers taking it while Kyle and Jordan secretly meet, discussing whether Tom will take the shot or not. Kyle admits he is considering forcing Tom to take promicin, but Jordan stands by his vow to never force promicin shots on anyone as it has always been about free will, but if Kyle thinks it's the right way, Jordan's men will force promicin on Tom.

Tom, in the end, refuses, and as such, Jordan, his bodyguards and a few of the townspeople enter the room and, after overpowering Tom, inject him with a green substance and he passes out. Tom wakes up much later, and runs outside, where the town has been abandoned. Kyle, Collier and the others are nowhere to be found.

Tom returns to NTAC, but the promicin test is negative, Kyle didn't force promicin on Tom, and Tom issues arrest warrants for the Evanston population...and Kyle.

Meanwhile, Shawn's campaign for Seattle City Council is challenged by Gabriel Hewitt, who attacks Shawn by expressing the issue of someone so young and in-experienced having such a responsibility could be a burden that Shawn couldn't bear. When Shawn brings Gabriel to the 4400 Center, Gabriel reveals that Shawn, being a 4400, is attracting large amounts of media attention, and has decided to piggyback on this to furthur his own career, as he has his sights set on a larger position than city council. Gabriel, though hinting that he respects the 4400, is still going to discredit them, as he wants the position of city council so much, he doesn't care.

Maia has several recurring visions in her sleep of all the promicin-positive humans in the world, including the 4400, being rounded up and placed into prison camps, where people are separated upon arrival, with some going to gas chambers if they have powerful or threatening abilities, or some going into the prison area of the camp if they have small or non-threatening abilities (similar to Nazi concentration camps). Maia is among the detainees, and because of her ability of precognition, she is sentenced to death and sent to the chambers, but knocks a picture off the registration table as she is taken away. The picture is of Gabriel, revealing he truely dispises the 4400, and plans to exterminate all promicin-enhanced people when he reaches his desired position.

Diana doesn't believe Maia's "nightmares" are real but nevertheless decides to go to NTAC's Theory Room to ask for a way to stop them. Marco, who is curious about the possible dark future Maia saw, however asks Diana to ask Maia to have more nightmares so they can study the information she gathers. Hurt by their selfishness, Diana turns to Shawn and reveals what Maia saw. Having previously heard Maia's warnings (during Jordan's assasination), Shawn takes this to heart and, knowing Gabriel cannot became a "Home-grown Hitler", confronts him at his home and warns him he will do whatever it takes to win and walks away, leaving Gabriel shocked. Diana tries to assure Maia, who is attempting to stay awake, that they are bad dreams, but Maia angrily reminds Diana of her ability and says she cannot treat her like a kid anymore.

The Evanston population are gathered around a campfire. Kyle apologizes to Collier over not choosing to give Tom promicin and that the people lost their homes and possessions. Jordan, however, assures Kyle he did the right thing and says they were going to abandon Evanston anyway, as it was never meant to be a permanent settlement. Jordan, who is starting to believe in White Light, says if the prophecy is true, then Tom will take promicin anyway. Jordan decides to bring all the residents to Seattle.
