- The script for the original opening scene was shown on the official 4400 website before The New World was shown on tv. It had to be cut out for time.
- The head guy who is after Kevin in this episode, whose name is Malcom, was originally going to be played by Tracy Biggs but the role turned out to be too small and the writers wanted the actor to play a bigger role.
- Kathryn Gordon, the actress who plays Heather Tobey is friends with Craig Sweeny's wife.
- Jeffrey Combs wanted a role in the 4400 in which he didn't have to wear prostetics but in The Ballad of Kevin and Tess, he does.
- The opening sequence was not shown to the writers when they are watching the final cut.
- There were many versions of drawing made by Maia. It was difficult to find a drawing that looked liked it was drawn by someone Maia's age.
- Summer Glau originally tried out for the role of Lily.
- The writers had a little trouble about what to do about Tess's condition in this episode.
- The character Nick Crowley was going to appear in three diferent television shows before The 4400 but never made it onto the air.
- Nick Crowley was put in this episode to give a break from the Shawn/Isabelle storyline.
- The writers originally wanted Davin Johanson to play Nick Crowley.
- Some writers believed the script needed more of the Kevin/Tess relatonship in which the character expressed their feeling towards each other.
- The writers feel that not enough time was given to the Marco/Diana relationship in Season 2.
- It took 6 hours to put the silicone mask on Jeffrey Combs. It was the longest time make-up was applied to him. He was not happy.
- Agent Garrity was created by the writers to show a pessimistic view of things. If he doesn't have anything negative to say he doesn't say anything at all. Craig Sweeny shows interest of developing this character in a future episode.
- In Life Interrupted it was originally planned to have Diana and Garrity dating.
- Nina Jarvis was originally going to lead Diana out of NTAC.
- Hikock and Cody, the name of the movie in the background of the movie theater was the name of a script written by Ira Steven Behr about 10 years ago.
- Craig Sweeny led into the story idea of Nick Crowley not being able to finish his album, by Axel Rose and his Guns N' Roses album.
