The future communicates with Tom through "Kyle"

The People from the Future is a common term for the faction from the future which abducted and returned The 4400. They are the enemies of the Brutal and Powerful Elite. The faction was referred to as such by Alana in Gone, and is commonly used on 4400 message boards. On Highland Beach in White Light, the People from the Future use Kyle as a channel to tell Tom the story behind the 4400, and instruct him to "help" them achieve their mission.

A middle-aged agent posing as Sarah Rutledge is the only member of this faction to appear in the flesh on the series. It is unknown whether they are a breakaway group of the Brutal and Powerful Elite, or if they are part of humanity struggling to survive in the wasteland. Because of the advanced resources necessary to conduct a project like the 4400, the former is more likely. The probable headquarters of this faction includes the Future Room, where the 4400 were altered. Indeed, based on the fact that the Brutal and Powerful Elite seem to act as saboteurs rather than directly, it might suggest that they are the majority of those in the Last City. It is conceivable that despite having survived and made it into the city, some (or even most) people would still want to prevent the catastrophe if possible, and that the project to send the 4400 back is accepted by all except a small elite within the elite that survived. A city 1000 miles wide could hold a great number of people, and even if only one percent of one percent are in the city, by the time the catastrophe strikes, that could be hundreds of thousand or even millions of people (one percent of 6 billion is 60 million, one percent of that is 600 thousand). According to the official site, the People from the Future are from "hundreds of thousands of years in the future." ^[1]

Jordan Collier presumably became the main agent of the People from the Future to lead the 4400 towards their goal.
