Nancy Ryland is the daughter of Patty Ryland and his powerful husband, Dennis Ryland. Because of Dennis's demanding job, Nancy hardly ever saw him and quickly became estranged from him. Dennis began reconciling with her, starting over the phone (as he believed the world would be destroyed by the approaching comet. Nancy, however, despised her father after the promicin-inhibitor scandal and wanted nothing more to do with him.
