Mary Rutledge was born on June 11, 1913. Mary became the wife of Ethan and mother of Maia, and loved her daughter very much. One day, Mary, her husband and daughter, went to the park near their home in Crescent City, California for a picnic, but found it raining despite earlier signs it was to be a nice day, so they had a picnic in the car. At her insistance, Maia was allowed by Mary to go outside to pick flowers, but only for a minute and was to return to the car. Maia never returned. Mary was devastated by the loss of Maia, but she and Ethan never lost hope that they would see her again, and kept her old room in their house the way it was in case she return. Mary and Ethan, nevertheless, moved on from this tragedy and, five years after Maia's disapearance, had another daughter they named Sarah Rutledge, and told her about her lost older sister. Mary died of old age on April 7, 1990, and was buried beside her husband. Maia, having been abducted by the People from the Future and sent back with the rest of the 4400, visited her parents graves upon leaving quarantine.
