Jane Orman was a secretary at NTAC, who used to work for Dennis Ryland and type for him due to his inability to do it himself; leaving her initials beside her own, and normally handled many classified documents and memos for the purpose of destroying or organizing them, but possessed O-level security clearance to see them. Whilest working for Ryland, Jane came to see him as a great man and enjoyed working for him.

All this changed when Ryland began Operation: Firewall, and his memo on the operation was left in Jane's possession after Ryland had a heated argument with Max Hudson. Curious about what caused her employer to become so irate, Jane took the memo home and read it. Disturbed by its contents, Jane resigned the next day, disillusioned with trying to fight the high-ranking officials on the memo's name list. Jane later surrendered the memo to her old colleagues Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris, and they used it to bring Ryland and his conspirators to justice.
