Jane Nance was a 4400 and a botanist. Following the promicin-inhibitor crisis, Jane was able to access her ability, animapathy, after being cured thanks to a cure developed by Kevin Burkhoff.
Jane became a member of the Nova Group as she believed the 4400 needed protection from the government and any other hostile agressors while trying to save the world. Jane served as a the primary recruiter for the organization, evaluating potential members under the guise of helping taking care of her plants, but often participated in active field missions, and was personally responsible for the death of General Everett Watt, a member of Operation: Firewall, when she used her ability to cause Watt's pet dog to go mad and maul him to death.
When Daniel Armand used his ability to drive Shawn Farrell, who betrayed the group to NTAC, insane, Shawn's lover Isabelle Tyler sought revenge against the group by tracking down Armand. Desperate for a lead to the group, Isabelle was led by her father to Zachary Gidlund, one of Jane's potential recruits, where she learned of Jane's ties to the group. Before Richard could alert NTAC, Isabelle confronted Jane at her home, and after torturing her for information, turned Jane's ability against her, causing her many pet animals to go insane and attack and eat her, mere second before the NTAC team stormed the house. The information Jane surrendered led Isabelle to Jorge Molina.
