Numerous Historic Events and Figures have been mentioned on the 4400, most related to 19th century America or the Cold War.

[edit] 19th Century

Jordan Collier compared himself to John Brown, an abolotionist who lead an attack on a federal weapons depot in Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1859. He planned to steal guns and other weapons and distribute them to slaves and abolotionists, starting a slave revolt. His attack failed, and Brown was executed for this raid. This increased tensions between the North and South.

Jordan Collier compared himself to Brown in Terrible Swift Sword, and his work in the last two episodes of the third season resemble Brown's plans and attack. Collier claimed that Brown surrounded himself with people who were loyal to his cause, and that kind of dedication could change the world.

There have been numerous allusions to nuclear weapons and allusions to the Cold War on the 4400, most of them related to promicin.

Dennis Ryland said that "whoever controls promicin has a strategic advantage over the rest of the world" and "this is another Manhattan Project." Kevin Burkhoff said "the arms race began. Someone is going to develop a promicin syrum that will give non-4400s extraordinary abilities. It will happen. The only question is who will do it and who will control it."

Promicin glows like uranium and plutonium, the elements used to produce fission weapons. A promicin stockpile was developed for the US government, like nuclear stockpiles around the world.

Isabelle once used the term "balance of power," and said that if both the 4400 and the US government had abilities, no one could use them [in the war].

It has been mentioned several times throughout the series that a war is going on.

  • Korean War - A war fought in Korea from 1950 to 1953. Richard was abducted during the Korean War.
