Graduation Day saw the end for Matthew Ross and several Nova Group members, Tom making an important decision about Isabelle, and Alana finding out what really happened to her husband and son. Viewers were given the task of judging whether or not Isabelle was good or evil at this point. The episode name comes from Isabelle telling Matthew Ross that "It's graduation day."
[edit] Synopsis
Maia and the other 4400 children have been returned to the present, but Tom had to make a deal with the devil to get them back. He's never given Isabelle very much thought, but now he has the mission to kill her and the syringe to do it. A nightmare of arriving to work one morning to find Diana acting strangely visits him (hopefully it's not another fantasy world). Diana takes him to an interegation room in the detention center. He finds Isabelle wearing an orange jumpsuit, telling him to kill her before she kills millions of people. Diana hands him the syringe, telling him that they have a lot to do today. Tom injects her, she screams, and he wakes up, jumping from his bed. It was all a dream.
Matthew Ross tells Isabelle that she still needs him and that "not everyone in the future thinks that they [the 4400] are a good thing. All of this talk about a catastrophe they're supposed to prevent. The 4400 are the catastrophe." He also tells her that Shawn being sick is a good thing. She's more interested in helping Shawn. He is killed by a brain aneurysm when Isabelle decides that she no longer needs him and he is interfering with her life.
Shawn goes outside to find Maia has scraped her knee. He tries to heal her, but instead almost kills her. Maia's friend Amy yells at Shawn. Maia asks Diana why Shawn would hurt her. Diana tells Richard and Matthew that if they don't commit Shawn she will file an assualt charge against him and take the decision out of the Center's hands. Shawn is taken to Abenson Asylum after Daniel Armand made him insane. Tom tries to track down Daniel Armand, knowing that he was responsible for what happened to Shawn.
Isabelle takes Shawn away from the mental center. Isabelle starts to hunt down members of NOVA until she finds the one who did that to Shawn. She first meets Zachary Gidlund, right after he was done talking to Richard in the forest. She then finds Jane Nance, and has all of her pets eat her. She then finds Jorge Molina, and burns down his garage. She finally finds Daniel Armand in a warehouse somewhere. She makes Daniel Armand cure Shawn, ties him to a chair, and tells Shawn to kill Armand. He doesn't do so and she dicides to kame him insane. Every murder she commtited on her way, she did it by reversing their powers against them.
Todd Barstow tells Alana the location of the person who caused the death of her husband and son. Alana goes to an AA meeting to see Keane Driscoll, the man who killed her husband and son in a drunk driving accident nine years earlier. Driscoll has a car accident and ends up in critical care.
Richard convinces Isabelle not to attack the NTAC agents outside. He tells her that they can deal with what happened to Matthew and the members of the Nova group, but "If you go after those agents, that is it! You will be an enemy of the government - they will put you away forever and there won't be anything I can do about it." Richard, Isabelle, and the cured Shawn go outside. NTAC takes Daniel Armand into custody.
As there was no evidence that she killed anyone, Isabelle was brought back to the 4400 Center and freed. Tom and Diana knew better, though. Isabelle goes to her room at the 4400 Center to find Tom sitting at a table. He had a syringe with him, and she knew what it was as Matthew gave her one in the New World. He asks what happened to Matthew and the Nova members. She tells him that "those people were terrorists, they were hurting Shawn." Isabelle tells Tom that she was sent to eliminate the 4400, but she didn't want to do that. She offers to allow Tom to inject her with the serum, and holds her arm out. Tom grabs her arm, prepared to inject her, while she looks at him. He decides not to, and tells her that she had better hope that he doesn't ever want to use the syringe. The episode ends with Isabelle arriving at HaspelCorp for a meeting with Dennis Ryland.
