[edit] Synopsis
Tom and Diana continue their investigation on Jordan Collier's plan for mankind. Having stolen the promicin from Dennis Ryland, Collier begins to set up a plan to distribute the drug to as many people as possible. His former assistant, Devon, becomes the first volunteer. She injects the promicin and distributes instructional tapes via the internet. However, things go bad and Devon becomes sick. Shawn attempts to revive her but is unsuccessful. He is taken into custody and questioned of the whereabouts of the remaining promicin stockpile.
Meanwhile, Richard questions Collier about what happened with Devon. It seems that Collier knew the entire time that death was a risk for anyone attempting to gain an ability from promicin. Richard attempts to pull out of the group by destroying the remaining promicin, but is stopped by Tess Doerner.
Tom attempts to bring Alana to NTAC to interrogate Shawn and get the information on the whereabouts of the remaining promicin. However, Ryland has arrived and taken over the interrogation with the U.S. Army. He brings with him Isabelle who interrogates Shawn. She tells Shawn that she betrayed him and Richard for the "balance of power." When he refuses to give her the information, she grabs his head and pulls the information from him. She leaves with Ryland and heads towards Collier's hideout. Meanwhile, Shawn is taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Once she finds Collier's location, she walks in with Ryland's enhanced soldiers. To show that she can hurt him, Isabelle begins choking Collier with her mind. However, the soldiers discover that the vials of promicin are empty, and Collier reveals himself to be Boyd Gelder, the shape shifter. Gelder is there to send a message, in the form of a bomb. The bomb blows up the facility, and only Isabelle is left alive.
Isabelle leaves the scene and heads towards the 4400 Center to draw Collier out by killing people. Ryland attempts to stop her but is unable. Diane and Tom arrive on the scene and Ryland tells them what happened. Tom is now determined to do what he had not been able to do earlier: kill Isabelle. Back at the 4400 Center, Isabelle has arrived and started to kill people, including members of the 4400. She walks into Maia's class and finds a girl to hurt. However, Tom and Diane break into the room and start shooting at her. The bullets are no good, nor are Tom's attempts to inject her with the poison the future agent gave him. Isabelle starts choking Tom when Richard walks into the door. Having seen what his daughter has become, Richard telekinetically picks up the syringe and injects his daughter. However, she does not die, but loses her abilities. Tom then shoots her in the shoulder, sending her to NTAC medical, she is expected to survive.
Diana and Maia leave with Ben to live in Spain, where he has been offered a job. She feels that she needs to get away and be with her daughter in a safe place as long as possible.
"The end of one journey is always the beginning of another. Change is painful, and always comes with a cost. It hurts to bare those costs but we can't allow that to sway us. Tomorrow is a mystery. The only thing we can do is face it with resolve. We move forward, always forward and into what's next. We make a choice, we act on that choice and all it's left is to live and hope."
Alana Mareva is abducted again; presumably by agents from the future. Maia had told Alana that she would not be there when they (Diana, Ben, and her) returned from Spain. An un-named woman in El Paso, Texas, develops a 4400 ability. She walks into a nursing home and cured her father of Alzheimer's Disease. This is only the second civilian non-4400 (after Kevin Burkhoff) to develop an ability. NTAC seizes the 4400 Center. Richard has nowhere to go and no one to turn to now that the 4400 Center has been closed and his daughter is in a world of trouble. Shawn is in a NTAC hospital room after Isabelle used her powers to get information from him which left him in a coma. Jordan, Kevin, and Tess are hiding out somewhere. The final scene has Kyle and April deciding to take the promicin, and ends with a promicin distributor turning to the viewer (or simply an unseen passerby) and asking, "How about you? 50-50. You want the shot?"
[edit] Quote
- Tess: It's not hard for me, I've believed in you all along. Theres a reason why we were taken and a reason they woke you up. It's incredible — you should getting the Nobel Prize. Instead we're hiding like criminals.
- Kevin: It won't be like this forever. Soon we'll be heroes!
