Ethan Rutledge was born on October 11, 1915. Ethan became the husband of Mary and father of Maia, and loved his daughter very much, even teaching her how to play poker. One day, Ethan, his wife and his daughter, went to the park near their home in Crescent City, California for a picnic, but found it raining despite earlier signs it was to be a nice day, so they had a picnic in the car. At her insistance, Maia was allowed by Ethan to go outside to pick flowers, but only for a minute and was to return to the car. Maia never returned. Ethan was devastated by the loss of Maia, but he and Mary never lost hope that they would see her again, and kept her old room in their house the way it was in case she returned. Ethan and Mary, nevertheless, moved on from this tragedy and, five years after Maia's disapearance, had another daughter they named Sarah, and told her about her lost older sister. Ethan died of old age on July 4, 1984, and was buried beside his wife in the same cemetary. Maia, having been abducted by the People from the Future and sent back with the rest of the 4400, visited her parents graves upon leaving quarantine.
