Derk Danoff was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Military. He was selected by the military to take part in Haspelcorp's enhanced-soldier program, where he and 19 others would be given doses of promicin taken from Isabelle Tyler's blood, and use their abilities to defend the United States. Derk was among the 10 members of the original unit who survived the promicin exposure, and after finishing training, Derk went on to work directly under Dennis Ryland at Haspelcorp. Derk and the rest of his team were dispatched by Ryland with Isabelle to recapture Haspelcorp's stolen stores of promicin, but when they arrived at the supposed location of the store inside a warehouse, they found it to be a trap laid by Nova member Boyd Gelder. Boyd activated explosives hidden in the store, which itself contained no promicin, causing the warehouse to explode, killing himself and the soldiers, including Derk.
