Danny Farrell is the younger brother of Shawn Farrell. Three years after his return along with the rest of the 4400, Danny was overjoyed to be reunited with his brother, and even threw him a welcome home party and defended him from bullies at school.
[edit] Season 1
Gradually, Danny became suspicious of Shawn and the rest of the 4400, especially when one of them killed a man using his mind. Danny also became suspicious of Shawn's growing relationship with his girlfriend; Nikki Hudson, who had always desired shawn before his abduction. When Nikki broke up with Danny, because of his attitude towards Shawn and the 4400, Danny learned to keep his views in check, and eventually tried to use this, and some romantic gifts, to try to mend his relationship with Nikki. Nikki, however, revealed that she was having an affair with Shawn and had sex with him on the same day she broke up with him. Danny immediately went home, and attacked Shawn in a blind rage, but Shawn used his ability to nearly kill Danny and, frightened, ran away.
[edit] Seasons 2 and 3
Danny maintained his anti-4400 point of views while his brother was away, but eventually softened when Shawn mended differences between them.
[edit] Season 4
Danny is currently attending Northmount College in the hopes of getting into law school, but his views on the 4400 and people with abilities has improved due to the rapidly-changing situation the world has become, and gradually became more supportive of Jordan Collier's efforts to change the world with promicin. Eventually, Danny gathers enough courage to tellk Shawn that he wants to take a promicin shot, and asks for his help in locating one. Shawn is initially hostile, saying that 50% of people taking the shot die, but Danny angrily interprets this as reluctance due to Shawn not being the "special" one in the family anymore. Shawn finally accepts that it is Danny's choice to take the shot, and gives him a syringe, but on the condition that he wait a couple of weeks to stay up to date on the state of the world and if it is safe to take promicin. Danny agrees.
Several weeks later, Danny still has not taken the shot. He learns about Shawn and Dr. Burkhoff's work in creating a promicin compatibility test, and he wants Shawn to test him to determine if he can safely take the shot. Dr. Burkhoff's tests show that Danny is a "statistical outlier"--his corpus callosum, the structure in one's brain whose size partially determines whether a person would survive a promicin injection, is abnormally large. Danny will almost certainly survive the shot. With this news, Danny finally injects himself with promicin.
Later, Danny's mother dies from an aneurysm the way one would die from promicin rejection. After reaching the hospital, more and more people around Danny collapse and die. Danny realizes that his ability is spreading promicin through the air like a virus. He runs to the 4400 Center to seek out Shawn's help, and Dr. Burkhoff immediately places Danny on the promicin inhibitor. While the inhibitor succeeds in suppressing his ability to spread promicin in the air, his body continues to produce it--with nowhere to go, the promicin builds up in his system to toxic levels. In Danny's own words, he's "choking on the stuff." The only way to relieve his illness is to be taken off the inhibitor, which would make him contagious once more--an idea which Danny refuses to consider.
Unwilling to face the idea of living with the fact that he has already inadvertently slaughtered thousands, including his and Shawn's own mother, and becoming increasingly sicker from the promicin buildup in his body, Danny asks Shawn to use his powers to kill him. Shawn reluctantly agrees and, tearfully, drains the life out of his brother to spare him the pain of a slow death.
In the end, a confirmed 9,000 people in Seattle died from Danny's "promicin virus," with possibly 9,000 more gaining new abilities.
