The nature of science fiction, and virtually all fiction, has lead to many works having overarching themes and ideas. The following is a list of shows and movies which may be compared to the 4400.

• X-Men: Both series show humans with extra-human abilities.
• X-Files: Agents Mulder and Skully are similar to Agents Tom and Diana.
• Heroes: A new show on NBC about humans with extra-human abilities.
• The Visitor: A 1997 Fox series about a man who was abducted and returned after 50 years to help people make the world a better place.
• The Matrix (movies) - See Life Interrupted
• 24 (Fox series) - See Lockdown
• The Outer Limits: The New Series - A science-fiction anthology program which Scott Peters once worked on.

• The Sentence - an episode in which a researcher creates a machine which causes the mind to experience long periods of time in a matter of moments. Alana's ability, and probably Jordan Collier's visions of the future.
• The New Breed - an episode in which microscopic robots repair human tissue after any injury. Shawn, Kevin Burkhoff, and Isabelle have all shown this ability.
