Allusions to Current Events

The 4400 alludes to many current events, many related to American culture after 9/11.

• NTAC is a division of the Department of Homeland Security, which was created after 9/11.
• In the pilot, Adam Kensington planned to defraud thousands of people, like Enron.
• Quarantine alludes to detention centers the US government has set up for enemy combatants.
• The War in Iraq was mentioned in the Starzl Mutation.
• Amber alerts were issued in Gone. Gone, as an episode, was probably based on kidnapping stories in the news such as the Amber Hagerman, Levi Frady, Morgan Nick (which all have alert systems named after them; Amber Alert, Levi's Call (Georgia), Morgan Nick Amber Alert (Arkansas)).
• The 4400 Commission Report was written, alluding to the 9/11 Commission Report.

[edit] Civil Liberty Violations

Numerous civil liberties violations have occured on the 4400.

Numerous characters have been chased by NTAC even though they have violated no laws, including Jordan Collier, Richard Tyler, Lily Tyler, Kevin Burkhoff, and Tess Doerner.

After Alana helped Joran Collier realize who he was, he was still held by NTAC, and Nina Jarvis threatened to hold him "indefinitely" even though he did nothing wrong and they had nothing to hold him on.

An NTAC agent has never read anyone their Miranda rights, although Tom Baldwin read a modified version to an "enemy combatant."
